Side passes are not yet important in his age but I would like him to begin to understand diagonal aids. Manjerico is learning to yield from the inner leg to the outside rein. It is important that I give him an open outside rein inviting him to step into the free space I provide.
I prepared this in hand. Manjerico already knows how to step sideways in hand yielding away from me but also towards me. He knows the command “lower your head for me” and can therefore relax and stretch his topline when I ask him to. This all lays the foundation for him to acquire the
coordination and ability for stepping sideways with a rider.
I complete this training session with another exercise for his coordination by letting him trot over some poles for a few times.
